The knowledge and expertise for making wooden wheels is part of both carriage making and carriage construction. It belongs to the domain of craft skills, craftsmanship and technology and has virtually disappeared in Flanders. Thanks to the grant 'doorgeven van Vakmanschap' from the Flemish government, an important step could be taken in securing and passing on this knowledge in Flanders. ​The carriage restoration company of Patrick Schroven, Arne Libert (independent restorer and part-time practical teacher of wood polychromy within the restoration and conservation course at the UA) and the Carriage Museum in Essen (BE) joined forces and brought together valuable knowledge.
